Lifeguard Certification Course

The American Red Cross and the YMCA have teamed up to bring our community Lifeguard Certification Course.   American Red Cross Lifeguard Training is a certification course for those individuals interested in becoming certified to work as a lifeguard.  Participants who successfully complete the course will earn American Red Cross Certification in Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.

Dates Course is offered:

January 27th-29th:  Pretest:  Jan 23rd

March 3rd-5th - Pretest:  Feb 27th

March 17th-19th:  Pretest:  Mar 13th

March 31st-April 2nd:  Pretest:  Mar 27th

April 7th-9th - Pretest:  Apr 3rd

April 28th-30th - Pretest:  Apr 24th

Blended Learning Courses: (note early deadline)
**Course work required before attending class**

May 5th-7th:  Pretest:  April 24th

May 19th-21st:  Pretest:  May 8th

Pretest time for all courses:  7-9pm

Course times:  Friday 5-9pm | Saturday & Sunday 8am-6pm

Pre-Course Skill Test Components:

300 Yard Swim: During the 300 yard swim, participants must demonstrate proficiency in both Front Crawl and Breast Stroke. The swim must be continuous. There is no time limit.

Timed Element: Participants have 100 seconds to swim 20 yards, surface dive to the bottom of10 feet, retrieve a 10lb object, return 20 yards on the back, and exit the pool.

Treading Water: Participants must demonstrate the ability to tread water without using their hands for 2 minutes.

Course Prerequisites

Participants must be at least 16 years of age on or before the final scheduled day of this course; must show aquatics skills equivalent to Level IV. This includes 25 yards of Front Crawl, Back Crawl, Breaststroke, Elementary Backstroke and Sidestroke and 15 yards of Butterfly.  Participants must attend all classes of designated course and demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities to pass the class successfully.  The final decision belongs to the class instructor.
